8 Striking Photos of China’s Rainbow Mountains

These amazing mountains in China’s Zhangye Danxia Landform Geological Park are the believed to have been formed 6 million years ago by layers of red sandstone and mineral deposits.

This particular geological structure, along with the long term weather of freezing, thawing, wind and rain, gave these mountains their magnificent appearance.

It is believed that a shift in the earths crust helped the layers of rock to form in so many different colors and formations.

It is easy to see why Danxia became a UNESCO World Heritage site

in 2010.

Some of these pictures have been processed to accentuate to make the colors even more vivid, and the results are striking.

These amazing mountains have become a huge tourist attraction, with walkways and viewing platforms

Some of these fabulous photos look like paintings.

 

As you can see, there are small roads running through the mountains. It must be awesome to travel through such splendor!
